The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show

The Beatles on Ed Sullivan
A rare collection of historic color photographs by Howard Grafton
The photographic prints were produced on aluminum panels
Each measures approximately 18 x 21-1/2 inches
Hand signed and numbered by the publisher in an edition of only 25.

The Ed Sullivan show featuring the Beatles still attracts a record-setting 75 million viewers, making it one of the seminal moments in television history. Sixty years later, people remember exactly where they were the night The Beatles stepped onto Ed Sullivan's stage.

Historic facts about The Beatles appearance on the Ed Sullivan show in full color.

These beautiful images, taken by Howard Grafton, are the only set of color photographs taken during The Beatles' fourth and final appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show on August 14, 1965.

The performance occurred the day before The Beatles' Shea Stadium Concert, which kicked off their North American Tour. Every other authorized photographer on the set used black-and-white film.

There are only six images in total: two photographs re of the band's rehearsals, three pictures of the band's aired performance, and one captures Paul alone performing "Yesterday " solo for the first time on television without the three others. The Beatles performed six songs: I Feel Fine, I'm Down, Act Naturally, Ticket to Ride, Yesterday, and Help (John forgot some lyrics to "Help"). The broadcast received a 60% share of the nighttime audience.

About the artist:
Howard Grafton was a young photographer and the only photographer on the set with a brand-new color camera he hadn't used yet. Due to his young age compared to the more seasoned photographers present, Grafton had an 'in' with the Beatles, and the band granted him full access to the stage area.

This is the first time these photographs have been displayed in this medium and made available to the public.

Sold only as a matched numbered set and ready to hang.

$4500

BEYOND THE STAGE: Art by Legends of Rock n’ Roll

AN EXHIBITION AND SALE

You’ve heard their music, now see their art!

"I’m honored to have been invited to show my abstract art at Animazing Gallery’s exhibit, along with so many inspired artists. It’s a unique exhibit that explores the artistic expression of musical icons. We know their musical expressions, but at this exhibit we get to see how that translates into shapes and colors.”
- Steve Vai

“I’m so happy to be a part of this unique gathering of art and artists. I am more used to holding a guitar than a paintbrush but I actually started painting well before I ever played guitar. My mom took lessons from a fairly well-known artist, Mr. Kurosawa. I kind of liked it then and I never thought I would pick up the paint brush again, forty years later. The main difference between my music and my painting is that one is done with other people and the other is pretty much a one-man deal. Risk and I have been changing that by collaborating on our art pieces. I’m looking forward to this exhibition.”
- Robby Krieger

“It’s an absolute honor to be included in such an all encompassing and diverse show, and in such a wonderful and prestigious gallery. To be showing beside so many other world class musicians and artists is amazing and I hope people enjoy the “Cereal Killers” suite of paintings”
- Billy Morrison
