Andy Gotts
“Andy Gotts MBE MA is a photographer based in London, England, and New York, USA. He is most noted for his black and white portraits of Hollywood actors and iconic musicians.
Since 1990 Gotts' work has been published internationally and has appeared in many magazines, including French Vogue, Italian Vogue, Australian Vogue, ELLE, Style, Vanity Fair, GQ, Empire, FHM, Total Film, Entertainment Weekly, Stern, Glamour, El Mundo, OK Salute!, Hello!, Marie Claire, and io Donna, as well as international weekend newspaper supplements and advertising campaigns.
The National Portrait Gallery holds a selection of his photographs in their permanent collection and in 2009 Gotts was honoured with the presentation of the Fox Talbot Award for excellence in photography.
In 2011 Gotts was conferred the degree Doctor of Arts by De Montfort University and he is a former President of the British Institute of Professional Photographers.
2012 saw Gotts appointed MBE in the Queen's New Years Honours List.
Gotts is noted for his magnum opus 'Degrees' which was inspired by the game, the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon ; BAFTA – 'Behind The Mask', as well as SAVE THE ARCTIC for Vivienne Westwood, and the Monty Python reunion.
Other projects includes 'UNSEEN' which features 100 photographic contact-sheets. of Hollywood actors and world famous musicians, 'ICONS which launched in September 2021 at the Maddox Gallery, a celebration of Guide Dogs for their 90th anniversary, the Million Dollar Photograph for Janie's Fund and a special book entitled 'THE PHOTOGRAPH'... Other projects that happened in 2022: were THE FACES OF SOCCER AID for UNICEF and a wonderful personal project THANK YOU, BUT NO.
November 2023 saw the launch of an exciting new exhibition entitled NEMESIS. This exhibition features all the spectacular actors, shot during Gotts's three decades, who have portrayed the 'villain' opposite a certain Martini drinking, gadget loving, Aston Martin driving MI6 agent. Be stirred, not shaken!
2024 looks like a busy one. The year begin with an exhibition in Las Vegas as a celebration to The Grammys. This is closely followed by a pithy titled '...and the winner is LA LA Land?' to doff ones cap to the movie award season.. Then peppered throughout 2024 there shall be European exhibitions in Sofia, Stockholm and Hamburg; before heading back to the USA for a exhibition to end the year.”
